Has OpenSSL decided on next LTS release
Just wondering if a decision has been made on the next LTS release? Since it seems like there is a FIPS effort for 3.5 is that the target for the next LTS?

I've heard that5 3.5 will be the next LTS.

Yes - 3.5 is the next LTS release - and there is an updated LTS strategy going forward which will be announced shortly

Thanks that is very helpful! Looking forward to the LTS strategy. In regards to FIPS work, it seems FP8.5 will obviously contain current FIPS PQ algs. Does it also support all the 186-5 changes, etc.? I know there has been a lot of work around indicators and such. Would you guys be willing to accept some help with ACVP support? Not sure you even need any help but thought I would ask.

Would 3.5 be submitted for FIPS 140-3 validation as well?

Tim Hudson Fri 21 Feb 2025 8:51AM
Yes - OpenSSL-3.5 will be submitted for a fresh FIPS 140-3 validation.

The announcement: OpenSSL 3.5 will be the next long term stable (LTS) release

I'm currently working on an announcement about that. (Most likely it'll be posted next week, but the preview is 3.5 will be an LTS since 3.0 will be over 4 years old in September.)
