Carla Jedani

I would like to nominate myself to represent the Individuals Community on the OpenSSL Foundation Advisory Committee.

I am an Australian lawyer, founder and researcher based in Munich, with a background spanning law, technology, governance and social impact. My interest in open source began more than two decades ago, when I published on open-source software and its legal implications. My more recent work has focused on emerging technologies, digital infrastructure, privacy, governance and community participation.

I am particularly interested in the governance of critical open-source infrastructure and in OpenSSL's evolving model of community participation. If elected, I would bring an independent legal, governance and community perspective to the Advisory Committee, alongside the deep technical and OpenSSL-specific experience already represented within the community. I believe there is particular value in connecting OpenSSL with the much broader group of individuals who rely on open-source security infrastructure, but may not traditionally see themselves as participants in its community or governance.

I am an accepted speaker at the OpenSSL Conference 2026, where I will explore how OpenSSL might engage younger generations with cryptography, digital security and open-source infrastructure. I also have practical experience in community building and youth engagement, including as a scout leader and former board member of a youth charity.

If elected, I would seek to represent the Individuals Community broadly, with particular attention to open governance, accessibility, community participation, outreach and creating pathways for new people to engage with and contribute to the OpenSSL ecosystem.
