I had a great time representing OpenSSL at the Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) from 12–14 November—one of the world’s largest and most influential gatherings for the finance, technology, and policy sectors.

With cybersecurity and next-generation encryption being one of this year’s core themes. Many attendees instantly recognized the OpenSSL logo on my T-shirt and badge, which made for some fun conversations.

Here are a few highlights from my experience:

  • Interestingly, three different people asked the exact same question: “When will OpenSSL support PQC algorithms?”
Their reactions were priceless when I told them PQC support has been available since OpenSSL 3.5!

  • Two companies even mentioned that OpenSSL is part of their product stack- It was encouraging to hear this.

  • One individual suggested that OpenSSL should consider adding threshold encryption algorithms.

  • One company openly shared that they’re using OpenSSL 3.3, and I suggested they try OpenSSL 3.5+ for its updated features and new algorithms.

  • A few people even asked, “Why doesn’t OpenSSL have a booth at SFF?”
(Not a bad idea for the future!)

  • While most people use OpenSSL without realizing it, three companies shared their extensive and intentional usage of OpenSSL for testing and internal tooling.

Overall, it was a fun and rewarding event.
