Old Business

New Business

  • Source code reformat. (Matt)

    • Allow format code checks on commit and the current file-checking script is “problematic”. The idea would be to use a standard style and use an existing tool. (Matt)

    • The outstanding PR involves a lot of changes. (Paul)

    • Linux kernel is pretty similar to the existing style. WebKit is actually a little closer. (Matt)

    • Pointer style has been pointed out as a significant change in the WebKit style. (Paul)

    • If something doesn’t pass, give people direction so they don’t need to interact with reviewers. As long as it’s adequately documented so people aren’t confused. (Randall)

    • Applying the new format will affect patches that third parties maintain and in-flight PRs. (Matt)

  • A reminder about the meet-up in Prague on 6th October. (Matt)

    • Will there be a video call? (Randall) We’ll see if we can make it work. (Jon)

  • General Discussion on Loomio is better than nothing, but still concerned about having cross-community discussion. For example a discussion on committers recently would have been interesting for the Academica community. It’s impossible for people to discover discussions in other communities without clicking into each community. (Nicola)

    • +1 (Paul)

    • It was a mistake to have discussions in subcommunities. Voting is fine, but it’s too complicated to have a divided forum. General discussion should be the default and go to the individual communities only when feedback from a specific group is needed. (Tomas)

    • Example: default algorithm group discussion started in the committer group, but went beyond the scope and could have used input from other groups. (Nicola)

    • Automate adding people to the General Discussion group. (Nicola)

    • We do need to ask our community about an issue. (Paul)

    • But there should already be a topic in the general group. (Nicola and Tomas)

    • Distribution community is essentially dead and the group should be wider. (Dmitry)

    • Discovery problem for the distribution community. Maybe distributions and packages. (Matt)

Action items

  • Announce Election timeline (Jon)

  • Side meeting to revisit the General Discussion issue at the conference with Nicola, Tomas, Anton and anyone else who is interested. (Jon)

  • Straw man AI policy for broader consideration on the Community forum (James)
