A really "general" discussion forum

MB Michael Baentsch Public Seen by 68

The current discussion groups in this system seem to be very much siloed -- which is sensible to keep certain things separate (e.g., polls relevant only for committers or votes only relevant for corporate users).

On the other hand, this makes it pretty much impossible to have open conversations regarding features of interest across those silos (e.g., regarding user or contributor interest in DTLS 1.3 (https://openssl-communities.org/d/fskEj9eM/interest-in-dtls-1-3-support-)).

This discussion thus is to propose inclusion of all members in all fora into the "General discussion" group to break down the silos for cross-silo conversations -- or the creation of a new group (or different venue) to facilitate that.

I agree! After a little research, I discovered the platform we are using (Loomio) has an API. As an admin, I can use that to invite members of existing groups to the General Discussion. It doesn't add them directly, but they can opt-in. I think this will be a useful next step.

Obviously the people who would get the invite aren't here to object, but I will wait until Monday in case there's something I'm missing.

I have invited everyone who is in every other community group to the General Discussion community. I will likely need to do this in the future or find some other way to automate the process.

Thank you, Jon! I agree that this is necessary should we want to facilitate nuanced conversations about the work we are doing without re-introducing the siloed approach we have chosen up until this point. Thank you once again, I look forward to engaging with everyone!
