Open discussion about BAC nominations
Hi all,
I think this is the smallest of our communities, and I noticed we didn’t really get to discuss yet among ourselves about nominating representatives for the BACs.
I don’t think I will self-nominate for this, as I believe I would be a bad representative for this community, specifically because in the past years my contributions as a committer/reviewer have been very limited, barely enough to meet the bar to retain the committer status.
So I think that leaves me no better option right now than to get this discussion started!
I would gladly nominate any of my fellow committers for either BAC , but I’d like to hear if we have volunteers that would accept the nomination, or if any of you has already decided not to represent this community in this role for other reasons.
I invite also the members of this community that are not eligible (because they cannot oversee themselves as they already have other roles in the new governance structure) to share their views and motivate people to come forward, as I believe they have a unique perspective and insight on what the members of this community can bring to the BACs tables!

I also encourage anyone who has an interest in representing the views of the committer community to nominate and run - and if you don't wish to self-nominate then ask one of those who cannot run (Matt, Tim, Tomas, Richard) if they would be willing to nominate you.
The committers seat on the BAC allows you to represent the views of the committers as a whole and also participate in the recommendations of the BAC along with the other elected community representatives.
Do not assume that the business focused aspect of the BAC precludes participation because you are a technical person. Committers are one of the critical communities and direct participation in feature decision recommendations is essential.
Prior to the governance changes, all feature decisions were made by a subset of the committers (the former OMC) so there is a long tradition of technical people participating in such decisions.

This thread should probably be closed now that we have nominations in and the election is running.

I cannot stand, due to my director role in the Foundation. However I'd really encourage anyone who wants to stand and is able to, to step forward and do so. This is a huge opportunity to have a say in the running of OpenSSL and influence key decisions about our future.
